I'm hosting an Open House event at my site this coming Saturday, May 15th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
If you're not doing anything anyway and want to see the interesting town of Licking (click here to find out how it got it's name --> http://train.missouri.org/licking/govern.htm), you're invited to stop by!
Send me an email or PM if you're interested and I can send you directions!
By the way, the population is much larger than the census count in 2000, of 1471, since well, they added a large state prison here. We get to count the inmates in the city population.

Kathy, I do wish I could be there. You're not too far away from my old stomping grounds. I was born and raised in Baxter Co., Arkansas, in the Mountain Home/Salesville area.
Hope your open house goes well and hopefully you got it posted in your local paper that is supporting you. You are doing such a great job in promoting martins in your area. Maybe one of these days, we can get up there to see you and your colony.

Kathy, I would sure like to have come there, but me and Lucky would have had to have caught yesterdays stagecoach to get there by Saturday,it's a long ways through all those hills and hollers from here. I sure hope you have a good turnout at your dooin's. That casey's pizza will be selling like hot cakes! I sure hope someone worked on that entering/leaving Lickin' sign after your big population explosion, by the way do yall count the people in the cemetery on your census also? Here's hoping you have a good turnout on Saturday, you go girl!!! Jimnks

Jeff - would love to meet you! Hope you're able to get approval...did you start routing your chit through the approval process yet?

Tim, thank you so much! It has been an intimidating and daunting process, but I have been rewarded by meeting some of the coolest people in this area!
I sent invitations to the MO Conservation Dept. and the Audubon society and have gotten such a good response, that I decided to not put it in the paper. I'll start small - maybe next year I'll invite a larger group, when I feel more confident!

Caroline - I would love to meet you! It's a very small world.
Jim, they've still got hitching posts in Licking that you could tie your horse up to! Thanks - you always make me laugh to the point of tears.
No - they caught us when we tried to count the cemetary folks, but they were ok with the people counting their coon dogs - go figure!

Approval process still in the hopper - expecting possible guests Friday night that I didn't know about till this evening. Still hoping, but my hopes are a little dim at the moment. I'll definitely let you know if we get the green light....and I really hope the weather holds up for your day!
Just to let everyone know - due to the rain & cold we're having this week & tomorrow the temps drop even more, I'm rescheduling the open house event to May 22nd, 9 AM to 12 Noon.
If anyone is interested, please contact me!
