General Comments:   Morning speakers include:

Jennifer Jordan (Iowa City, IA) - Recycling Coordinator, City of Iowa City, will talk on: "Resource Management in Johnson County" -an inside look at recycling and how you can help reduce waste.

 Doug Harr (Ogden, IA) - Iowa Audubon President,  Harr will speak on: "Swans, Swifts & Ceruleans. . .Why Citizen Conservation Counts." Your role in conserving threatened bird species.

Pat Schlarbaum (Nevada, IA) - Long-time leader in the Nongame Program of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources , Pat will give us an "Update: Eagles, Ospreys, and Peregrine Falcons" on the successes and challenges of these DNR restoration programs.

The afternoon martin program will feature Dave Duit (Nevada, IA) of the Iowa Purple Martin Organization speaking on "A Comprehensive Look at the Purple Martin and Landlord Practices." A panel of experts will then answer questions, followed by door prizes and an auction.

 A well-maintained martin colony brings joy to any neighborhood. Establishing a new colony is now a realistic possibility for many people. Anyone wanting to start or re-establish a Purple martin colony, or in need of assistance in maintaining a colony, will benefit from attending this program.

There will be a $2.00 registration fee (ages 10 and under free). Lunch will be available at the site. Vendors are being encouraged to set up displays of interest to program attendees.


Cavity Nesting Birds Workshop

General Comments:  This workshop is designed for those hoping to assist in the conservation of cavity nesting birds.  Workshop participants will discover the joy of backyard birding and learn best practices regarding providing cavity nesting birds with healthy nest options.  Activities and demonstrations include:  cavity nesting bird identification, Purple Martin Gourd Rack setup, Bluebird nest box setup, nest monitoring protocol, bird banding opportunities, supplemental feeding, best practices (including House Sparrow traps) and equipment selection.
