Deb,
I too feel for you in this time of loss. It is very obvious what your dad means to you. Being a stepfather myself for the last 21 years, I know what your love mint to him. I just a few years ago adopted my 3 even though they were grown. I can only hope that I might mean to them what your dad mint to you. You will be in our prayers and our hearts.

Deb,

My Dear Friend and Martin Mentor, you can see by the outpouring of sympathy and kind words how much your PMCA family loves you! I join them to offer you sympathy, prayers, and kind thoughts until I can see you at a craft show and give you a genuine ((((HUG))))!
Seems that only passing time heals the emptiness and the sorrow. Your Purple Martins should remind you that although they depart and leave emptiness, they are still out there somewhere still soaring the skies. We just can't see them anymore.
That's so right, the real and raw pain will soften with time. You always have those wonderful Dad stories and memories to draw from and hold close to your heart. I know you are a tough little lady and will go on just fine. Remember- you are loved much by all whose lives you touch.

Martin Colony History: Had my site up to 22 gourds of which most (+/-3) stayed occupied.
Downsized to 17 gourds due to back surgeries. Had 14 families in 2017 but did not do nest checks due to health. Feeling better in 2018 and hoping for a good year.

Deb,
I too am so sorry to hear you lost your dad. I remember reading the post you mentioned about helping your mom and dad with their craft shows and I thought at the time it must be nice to spend so much time with your parents. I lost my dad just last week after losing my mom less than 6 months ago. I had no idea it would be so hard and I am sorry you are going through it. It is great you were able to spend so much time with your dad and you will be able to hold tight to those memories. I have always enjoyed your posts and it is obvious you have many many friends here on the forum lifting you up. I am praying for your grief to be overshadowed by your memories. I will whisper in my martins ears to spread the word that you need many martin families this year to help you smile and heal.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Clearly...

I need my martins this year more than they need me.

And...

Right now I need all of you more than you could ever need me.

I didn't tell you that I was awake in my hotel about to start the second and final day of the show when dad called me. His usual excited, "How did you do?". Several topics. He said he wasn't doing well that day (in the hospital skilled nursing). He said he was so tired. He said, "I just want you to know how much I love you." With a bit of sarcasm he said, I'm going to hang up, get them in here and find out what's going on.

We talked 9 minutes, 22 seconds. He started a massive stroke and cardiac arrest within 6 to 10 minutes of our hanging up.

I had told him I missed him and he replied he wished he was there. Well he found his way because I swear he was in my ear and my booth the rest of the day. I was four hours from home and opted to stay put. I'll never regret finishing out that show with him

Thank you for each word and thank you for listening.

Much love my bird nerds -

Deb;

So sorry for your loss. I was my Father's caregiver for the last several years of his life. I retired early to take care of him, and never regretted a moment of it, even though it was the most stressful job I had ever had.

I'm glad you got to spend the extra time with him toward the end. I hope you can find comfort in your memories, and your Purple Martins.

Hi DebA:

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I believe in the soul of every human life and all living creatures, and that the soul never dies but lives on in another higher, and unexplainably wonderful plane of existence.

I lost my father years ago to cancer as well and found out today one of my older brothers at age 52 goes in Thursday for biopsy of lesions on his liver. He has a wife and 7 year old daughter.

I can only think about the Son of the Trinity and his blessed mother at the foot of the cross; the joy of resurrection and knowing that it's all part of the Father's plan this thing called life on earth, and persons in relation to each other and nature.

Take care and peace be with you.

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

Deb:
Sorry for your loss....prayers for you & your family.
