Jack, My pair nested in my heritage farm house, and that's the house with the 4 gourds underneath it. I put the trendsetter up this year, but not until in april. So hopefully I'll have PM in both houses next year. I like both houses, but I think the trendsetter is superior. I like it a lot. Please k...

Jack,
Let us know how he does.
I had a pair that laid 9 eggs. 8 hatched, but 3 babies died, and I was helping the parents feed them by putting crickets in the compartment.
It was my first and only pair this year. 5 fledged successfully. Very exciting.

Question about leaving up housing

I know PMCA recommends leaving up housing until the end of Aug before taking it down. But I would think leaving the compartments open would only encourage sparrows to try and move in.
What do you think on this ?

Janet, Freeze the crickets, then thaw them out and put them in the cavity right along the entrance where the parents have to walk through them. My pair had 8 babies that hatched, so I put 50 - 80 crickets in a day. And they ate them all. When I would check the next day, they were gone. Put the crick...

Update on my pair

Hi everyone. Just wanted to give an update on my 1 pair. They laid 9 eggs. 8 hatched. I lost 3 babies, but as of yesterday, the 5 remaining babies have all fledged. So I guess I can say I'm officially a landlord now with successful fledges. Can't wait till next year. Thank you to all here on the for...

Don and Laverne,
Thanks for the info. My baby fledged today and is doing well. I only observed the one lesion above the R eye, so hopefully it will be okay.
Thanks,
Yvonne

How long will crickets last in the freezer. If you bought them this season, will they keep for a year if sealed up tight ?

Boisy,
What a wonderful story. I'm so glad your single male was able to take care of his young by himself, and thanks to you helping him feed them.
What a heart warming story. We have been rooting for you and your single male.

How tenacious my one pair is. It's hard for me to think that they won't be together for life. They seem perfect for each other.I've seen Pete chase hawks away, Maddie jumped on top of a sparrow 's head, who decided to come and sun on the gourd porch below her compartment. She trusted me enough to ri...

Louise, I have only one pair with nine eggs. She laid 5 eggs in four different compartments, and I put them all together the day after she layed the 5th one. A week later she laid 4 more, so she has 9 in her nest at present. I put 15 crickets in their compartment last week, just to see if the would ...

Louise,
You said you did supplemental feeding to help the young. Can you give me an idea of about how many crickets per young you need to feed per day ?
