First thing you need to do is ditch the BB gun. BB guns are not accurate because BBs are not perfectly round, nor is the barrel rifled. Get yourself a good quality air rifle. Practice with it and try different pellets so you can find the one the air rifle wants to be fed. With the right practice, an...

Now, that didn't hurt a bit, did it? Your birds will get back out, plus you now do not have to worry about starlings raiding your only pair.

Check out this video posted to youtube by Donna Gillbee. Maybe it will change your mind. A little worry about will your martins leave their eggs (no), or a whole lot of worry about your actions, or lack there of, murdered your first nest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00ybRPxIRsg If this doesn't co...

In a minute or so, a starling can enter your gourd, peck the eggs, kill the babies if they have hatched, and if they catch the adult martins in there, kill them. How concerned will you be then? You can either do it, or wish you had, it is your choice.

Do you, or do you not, have predator guards? A metal square pole will not slow down a snake one bit. They will go up it with ease.

It's all about money. Some manufacturers don't really care about Martins except that they see them as a "Cash Crop".

Looks good, Courtney. The more colonies you can help around your area, the better your chances of getting one started.

As for Gobbler T, if you had met your husband, as I have, he wouldn't be hitting on you, so step lightly Gobbler T

Scully, I have my brake winched mounted like yours. However, one thing I see that you need to take care of is the locking nut on the outside of spring. It needs to be on the threads more than it is. You will have to put a screwdriver into the gears, and tighten down on that nut. It is a nut that sel...

The best way is to use a 3/8" diameter rod. Troyer also designed it to be mounted with wire. If you will look on top of the gourd, you will see three little dimples. Two at the back and one near the front on the tunnel, I believe it is. Anyway, by running wires through these three dimples (after you...

Courtney, get your housing opened up. There are birds all around you so get yourself ready in case someone hasn't put up their stuff for some reason. Maybe you can steal some from someone who isn't ready or is no longer interested.

Everyone is correct about the 3/8" mounting holes.

I use sailboat halyard line. I get it from http://www.apsltd.com/ but if you have a local boat shop, particularly one that caters to sailboats, you should be able to get it there. While this rope is not cheap, I buy it because if it can withstand the elements of salt, fresh, or brackish water and is...

I have yet to see a UPS driver that wasn't ready to get those crickets off of their truck. While I really like to hear crickets, the sound gives most of them the creeps for some reason, especially when 6,000 are ordered. I do put mine into smaller bags, but from reading above statements, I can see w...

The "club" is the NC State golf course. It can be seen from the beltline. I don't know if the colony can be seen from the highway or not, but it is located between the Clubhouse and the State Fair grounds. It is on top of the hill near the Clubhouse and below it is the cow pasture for the Vet School...
