Re: Question about my new Trendsetter...

Hi and welcome. You need to remove the wire mesh and use only the nest trays. If you didn't have the nest trays you would use the wire mesh. I had the same question last year when I purchased nest trays. I love the trays since they make nest checks easier and add some protection for our birds. The b...

Re: Three Purple Martins Arrived At My Colony

Hey PMDavid, Steve and all!!! Guess what? I have 2 ASY males come to the house today. They are here!!!!!! Their song is unmistakable and their flight so graceful. I am so excited. Now, I have to keep the sparrows out. My neighbor no longer speaks with me. They feed the sparrows and I catch and "relo...

Re: Using a recorder for nest checks.

Thanks for the great ideas. I do have a smart phone and will probably try it out first. I'm on my way to Walmart now so I'll check on the recorder too. Great ideas! Thanks!

Using a recorder for nest checks.

Hi all,

I may be in a position this season to use a recorder when nest checking since I may not have a second person to record in writing what I find. Has anyone used one and if so what do you recommend?

Thanks all,

Brent

Re: Three Purple Martins Arrived At My Colony

Wonderful Steve. I've been seeing martins flying but none have yet returned to the houses. Hoping that tomorrow will be the day. The weather has been awful but this weekend it's suppose to be much better. Thanks for sharing!

That's great!! I saw two this morning around 8:45. They circled. They sang. I think they are mine.

Thanks for sharing. Good luck to you, too!

Re: Wall guard for Trendsetter nest trays-wing entrapment

Hi Archer,

You can see how they are used on the PMCA shop. Search for nest trays. They now sell the nest trays with the optional wall guard.

Thanks,

Wall guard for Trendsetter nest trays-wing entrapment

Hi everyone, You may have notice that the Trendsetter nest trays come with an optional wall guard (needs to be glued in place) that can act as additional protection against predators. It also states that it may help prevent wing entrapment. Has any one tried these? If so please share your experience...

Re: When pre-nesting...

T-Bird, I use nest trays in my Trendsetter and what I do is take and mold some around the perimeter of the tray so that the cup in the center is open. I make sure the entry is clear for them. As deamcamp mentioned, the birds will change things around. I actually add a little more after they have arr...

Thanks PMDavid. I'll check it out. Got cold here, hugh? I"ve lined my martin trays with pine needles. Once they start to arrive they'll have all the comforts of home.

Re: The RAT BIRD TRAP works

Hey PMDavid,

What did you use to bait the trap. Getting ready to put mine out and have used white bread which works fine. I bought a repeating bait trap here at the PMCA shop. I'd like to build one like yours though. That looks really well made. Good job!

Re: 1st sighting in Raceland, Louisiana

Hey PMDavid, I think they were passing through. Last year my first overnighter came in on January 31st. I'll see more, some curious that will circle but fly off and others that will just fly over. It's been really foggy so I haven't seen too much activity in the morning. There are a lot of bugs for ...

PMDavid,

Not sure if they are my birds or not but I didn't see them later in the afternoon. I suspect they were passing through. I did open 2 compartments in case they stay around. Looking again tomorrow.

Re: First Martin of the season just flew in

Thanks Mike! I've been looking and looking. Soon they should start showing up here in south Louisiana. Thought I saw one yesterday but I think it was wishful thinking. Eyes can play tricks on you especially if you're anxiously awaiting. The best to you this season and to our feathered friends.

Awesome sight! I bet it's spectacular when the martins arrive and build. I live in Raceland and have two trendsetters and the sight of them filled with happy martins in incredible. I can only imagine your sight. It must be overwhelming. I am eagerly awaiting my arrivals. Have a great season.

Re: New to Martins and Forum....

T-Bird, I've had great success with my Trendsetters. Had a house full the first year so I added another 8 compartment house last year. Both were full. No problem attracting the martins. Good luck and if you need any help this is the place to find it. This forum has been a great help for me many time...
