southern colonies

Just curious if the martins that nest in the southern states ever raise two batches of young? With them returning this early in the season when do they start nesting in your area?

asy visitors

Re: Full Circle

Nice story gun, when I was 10 my dad let me use our old 22 single shot with a bent barrel to shoot starlings and sparrows. Re: Sharon (Taxidermy Lady), What Worked for You ?

you should have left your round holes open early and shot the starlings, just keeping them out of a house means they will be a problem elsewhere, the only good starling is a dead starling!!!

Re: Newbie with Starlings and House Sparrows

you could put a house near your pond, then add a small ground blind to ambush sparrows & starlings, the more you can shoot the less trouble you will have, put the pressure on before martins arrive, starlings will get the hint if you shoot enough!!

Re: getting rid of hawk?

If it's a sparrow hawk the martins should be able to hold their own. If it's a coopers or sharp shined they can be deadly.

Re: owl predation

I highly doubt an owl wood be your problem, they will normally hover in front of a house to flush the birds out. I would suspect a raccoon somehow got in, they will pry the door open to get at the birds, we have had trouble with them in our tree swallow houses.
