Dave,
That is great to know as well - that a couple of the wonderful Iowa Purple Martin Organization's members are part of this great effort!

Re: Griggsville Purple Martins on the rebound

I can take no credit here, I'm just reposting their Facebook page. I wish I was a member of the Griggsville CAPM organization! (I need to find out a way to make a financial contribution). It is super exciting to see these folks bringing many more Martins back to Griggsville, a town that was such a p...

Griggsville Purple Martins on the rebound

The great group of folks that make up the Griggsville, Illinois, based "Citizen Assistance For Purple Martins" organization, have posted some updates from this 2018 Martin season. One of the many things they're doing on behalf of the Griggsville Martins, is replacing a lot of the old M-12K units (ma...

Re: Did sparrows kill these Martins?

So true.
The main reason I asked, is that is a lot of carnage (especially the dead adults) for a house sparrow.
That's the kind death and destruction one usually sees with a marauding starling.
Keep us posted.
Hopefully you'll determine the who the culprit is.

Re: Baby gone!

Cnevett27,
You may have already done this, but if they are old enough to jump, you may want to comb the area in your yard.
The baby could've jumped, and then scurried over to another side of the yard, under some shrubbery, etc.

Re: PMCA assistance

Thanks for reply Joe! Like I had mentioned in my original post, there is no doubt the PMCA does a lot on behalf of Martins and Martin landlords alike, with fairly limited resources. As for the Tulsa roost last year, it's great the PMCA contacted who they could, to better educate them on what they we...

Re: PMCA assistance

Great point Birdbrain. However, common pigeons are trapped all the time in cities - in public. House sparrow and/or starling control can be done dicretely by volunteers and/or city workers. Obviously shooting is out of the question. Trapping would be the way, which is already being done at colonies ...

PMCA assistance

As most of us know, our PMCA dues go towards a lot of great things, in terms of Martin research, public relations and promoting the species, etc. Though a lot of the research is invaluable, I for one would like to see the PMCA get more involved with "boots on the ground" projects, like locating the ...

Re: Avatars?

This forum runs on open source software called phpBB. Here is a quote from a security alert which is most likely why the PMCA has taken the measures they have: A server-side request forgery (SSRF) exploit was discovered in the remote avatar functionality which could be used to perform service discov...
