queston.......

i am curious about something. i know that martins start showing up here in the southern states very early. for example in florida they show up in january. do the early birds stay as long as the birds that show up in other states? or do they nest and leave earlier. if they stay for the entire season,...

well, i guess that includes me, i'm definitely in the "wannabe" category. i do feel very positive about my chances next season based on the amount of activity i had this year with SY visitors. more activity than i have ever seen previously!! although, i'm in kansas, and next season seems like a long...

question about martin pairs

i have read that martins don't mate for life. so, if that is true, my question is this: if you have a pair this season, do both the male and female return to the same site next year and find new mates? after 6 years of trying, i do believe that i am closer than ever to being a landlord. i have had s...

annie, what's the latest on your birds???? i thought my SYM had dissapeared, but he showed back up and is still trying hard to attract a mate. there is still another martin hanging out too, don 't know if it is ASY female or SY male........anyway, still encouraged about the activity. sure wish that ...

annie, i understand your anxiety, but just relax and ENJOY!

as far as the chatter tapes, from everything i have read/heard, once you have a pair actually move in, it is best to stop playing. maybe someone else will throw in their two cents.......rick

well, in my opinion, it might be too late for them to start a nest this year, but personally (after 6 years of trying to attract martins) i would never take my house down while martins are hanging out. i wouldn't want to discourage them from coming back next year. heck, i would leave the house up al...

well, sounds like your "drastic measures" may be paying off!! good for you. i kinda took the same attitude this year. after 5 years of no luck whatsoever, i decided to turn up the heat a bit. i only had one trio 12, so i added a trio 24 castle and another trio 12 to my site, i also added four gourds...

thanks louise. well, thats what i have always heard, that the male finds a home of interest, and tries to "talk" the female in to moving in. this very likely could be a SY male that seems to be interested in my gourd. i just noticed a ASY male around about the same time on several occasions. anyway,...
