Re: I’ve inherited Martins! How to do the right thing?

Good to see you on here, You will love the companionship that you create with your martins they love humans around the colony for there safety. They get very used to lowering there nest boxes and will sit above on the purchase's until you put the house back up. Martins are a very friendly chatty bir...

Re: Help with new housing

I would change that house in a min. especially with that non kept neighbor of your's thats not tending to his birds.....you'll fill up with his if you take care of them, feed some egg shells and that'll entice them right on over.

Makes you wonder if they don't return or is the morality rate that high that only a few return because they don't make it.

Re: The Forum vs Facebook

I do use Facebook and enjoy it very much, Lots of Information on both sites, the traffic on facebook is much more active than on this forum but it has its drawbacks just like these forums...So it all depends on what you want to use...
Either one has its good points as well as its not so good points

Re: Time to expand?

Toy makes a very good point, the idea of more housing is always fun, but make sure you can care for what you put up.... We started with 14 openings and we are up to 108 openings now We have increased 20-25 pr. per yr over the last 3-4 yrs. and each yr i added another house but we are now done with m...

Nice to here from you!! Glad you have a ton of martins, lord knows you deserve them after your yrs of patiences, wishing u a great finish to your yr. Your comment about opening thing's up can't be underestimated as it has to be the number 1 determining factor in people not attracting martins. I also...

Re: Purple Martins Eating Egg Shells

I feed egg shells all summer long....put them in a container and freeze them, then take amount you want and microwave for 2 minutes let them cool for a minute and they crush/crack very easy.

Re: Nests with eggs abandoned

Number1 get rid of your house sparrow's and that will more than likely solve your problem, ripping out Hosp nest rages the sparrow's and they'll very likely go on a rampage and torment who they think did it....(the martins) martins have white eggs so whatever is laying brown eggs isn't a martin.
