Re: Purple Martins Active Nearly All Day Long At Our Colonies

Hey Steve, same thing happening here, many new arrivals and many vicious fights! I always have one eye on the martins and one on the sky 👀

Re: Frustrating year

Do you think something may be getting them shortly after their return, just asking because this happened to me. Maybe a hawk, just a thought.

Re: Hy's and owl cage

Hi Larry, I have a cage around my Trendsetter and the Hy birds do great when coming in to roost at night. They will land on the cage and then hop onto the porch. I have enlarged all my owl cages to 4x4 instead of 2x4 works a lot better for me and the martins, just a lot of extra work!

Re: Using Cages to protect martins from GHO-Question for April & Others that use them...

Hi Kathy I've been keeping up with what was going on in your colony , it's like once your colony has been attacked by a OWL of any kind you become family with any one else that has ever had the same problem. It's also like once an owl is successful at catching martins at a colony no matter how much ...

Re: Using Cages to protect martins from GHO-Question for April & Others that use them...

Hi Kathy just read your post. I did not close in the bottom of my cages for the reason that you did not want to close yours, when my Martin's panic they always exit through the bottom. So far the owl has not tried to enter through the bottom that I know of. I have a great horned owl this year he or ...

I have had this happen in the past , my experience has been that something happened to the female because if something happened to the male the female will usually stay with the eggs . If the female disappears the male will try and recruit a new female , hope this helps .
