Unfortunately we have coops they don't seem to cause a big problem, but I don't sit at the colonies all the time either.Dick Sherry wrote:Congratulations on the growth of the Parsons colony. I know that has taken a lot of effort. Keep the Coopers hawks out of Parsons and keep the martin population growing!

No idea. I've heard one story about a roost that took place right in our colony one year. 20k birds, but don't know how reliable that is.

Wichita KS Martin Roost information...
This was posted by someone else.. I have not verified. Last night Dr. Mark Schuyler and I staked out Old Town, hoping to find out where the purple martins would be roosting over the next few weeks. They showed a lot of interest in the small line of trees where they'd been the past two summers, with ...

Re: Photobucket
I wouldn't call it extortion. Everytime a photo gets loaded the hosting site has to use resources. When hotlinked they receive no revenue the site that uses it does. When you click a link, it takes you to photobucket page and they can make the revenue from the adds. Maybe $400 is a bit much, but the...

Re: Trio House experience
Andrew (DornCounty), Between your personal colony and the Parson, KS Public Colony, you have the most experience with Trio houses. What modification to the Trio houses do you recommend to reduce loss of martins due to the heat? Too many modifications would be impractical for the number of houses th...

Re: First Babies of 2017
One summer I had 2 nests that had no daytime high under 90 and something like 20 over 95 with 10 being over 100 and no loses due to heat. Trios are great at preventing heat loses.

Hello Andrew, thank you for your dedication to the purple martins. I have a question, have you already posted photos or would you mind posting some for us to see? Thank you so very much. Things are little different than this post.. but it's pretty close. https://www.purplemartin.org/forum/viewtopic...

Andrew, I too want to thank you for what you have been able to accomplish. From you previous post I know you are a member of the Audubon Society and your interest extend beyond purple martins. I know you realize that the mere existence of purple martins depends on all of us maintaining housing , at...

Andrew, I was wondering were some of those houses already in place? I know you have put up many but I didn't know if some were in place when you started? But anyways Yes awesome job! Kyler, The public colony was started in the 1960s.. aggressively expanded in the 80s to over 70 houses. A tornado an...

Kyler,
Yeah you may as well be in California. Most people don't realize you can drive for 7hrs in Kansas and still be in the state.
