Adam, you talk about the video feed, by this do you mean the Dawn song? If so, take it easy with that, too much Dawn song can make the males too agresive. You can switch to the chatter cd instead at low volume.

Kathy this is a great post, thanks for sharing it with us. Sometimes it takes bad weather for us landlords to learn, and also the sub adults. Yes, the subbies do learn from the more experienced adults, your colony will be fine thanks to you!

Congrats on the feeding, once they get use to eating the egg, you can cut down feeding crickets. Just give them crickets for a treat once in a while.

Your correct the males do not incubate but many will keep the eggs from cooling by sitting on them while the female is feeding. My nest cam has showed this many times during cold weather.

I agree with Louise, so long as the female can feed in the afternoon the eggs will be fine, if the female has a good Hubbie, he will sit on the eggs while she feeds and keep them from cooling. Good mature parents will have no problem with the cold temps. But not all parents work together.

From my experience, I would turn it off. The problem I found is that the dawn song played to often attracted Merlin's and hawks. Curtis, yes to start with the Oyster bar, you need to remove the roof. But once the Martins get use to using it you can install it again. Then comes the Robin proof sides. One step at a time. It all takes time and training, but it does work. Believe me.... been there . You always start with the roof...
