Thanks! I just wanted to clarify that you did indeed use all the nest checks etc. With 94 pair it's really hard to keep up with the SY's!

Birds in Canada

I was looking at the new animated scout map and I noticed no birds above the Great Lakes. Why would they not go there? Just wondering!

I bet you can if they are asleep. I still have one that shows up every day. It worries me since I had a breach this year on an old clinger that had been weather worn. I placed a new one right over the old one and fixed that gourd. It'd be hard to lower a house or rack and not alarm them so that's a ...

Thanks Louise! I've never seen so many here before. Starlings have also been active this year. Years ago I witnessed the revenge thing and sure don't want that to happen now. I've always thought they were short lived birds but I read they can live to 10 years. I'll give the night trapping a try.

Have you ever boiled or oiled sparrow eggs?

I have a sparrow problem this year, usually I don't. I think this long winter has caused them to group up and they picked my place! They've taken over 3 bluebird boxes and one Bo nine gourd. I trap year round but this year have only trapped 1 since Dec. I put up more boxes for the bluebirds and they...

Happy Birthday! I wouldn't worry about the trap door, just make sure he if wiggles in to get him out ASAP. I've only had that happen once in 10 years.

I do think the older spare o doors had holes big enough for starlings!!!

Hope you get a good reply! I use automotive o rings that my husband uses. I've even gone so far as to drill holes in the rod on each side of the porch and use hitch pens.

KC, I hear ya! I won't go on vacation while the birds are here. Went one time for a few days and came back to a sparrow nest. Can't have that!

I really like the trays. If you have trouble reaching the top cavity it sure helps to be able to slide the tray out, do your check and slide it back.

I've got quite a few red-wings but no cowbirds. The cowbirds usually are a few days ahead of the martins so not sure where they might be. Lots of those "rusty hinge" sounds! Hope they'll be on the move soon since they are seed pigs!

Dallas don't worry! I have more than 70 clingers in use and the birds have no trouble. You can order the clinger tunnel if you think you need to add more space to the Bo 9.

Chris check with the Travis Audubon Society or there might be someone close in the mentor list.

I'd help if I were closer!
