Reported By: Anonymous Reporter

Reported: August 2017

Species Composition: Only Purple Martins

Description of Roost's Location: The roost is located on the SW corner at the intersection of Great Circle Road and Mainstream Drive, Nashville

Public Access to Roost?:

History of Roost: This is the first year this site has been used. The previous location was on the slope of Interstate 25 between Howerton Ave and Oldham Street. That site had been active since 2000. The site was lost because a road was built connecting Oldham and Howerton in July.

Description of Roost's Habitat: The roost is in 6 mature Bradford Pear trees in a business park

Roost Begins Approximately: Late-January

Roost Ends Approximately: Late-January

Threats to/Problems with Roost: The roost is over a sidewalk and vulnerable to human disturbance however there would be few people or cars in the evening because this is a business park and none of the businesses are open at night.

Opportunities at Roost: The location of the roost is excellent for viewing. The birds swirl over the lake in the business park, thousands stage on the dome of the Titan’s indoor practice facility, and then go to roost in trees on the side of the road. If permission is granted, the parking lot opposite the roost or a lot near the roost, there would provide space for environmental education or ecotourism.
