Male PM from another site killing eggs

Postby Beach42 » Fri May 17, 2019 5:16 pm

Need help!! Hello All, I have a question, we have lost 8 eggs this year and were thinking it was HS. Not the case!! We were sitting outside and a PM male started pulling out bedding from 5 different nests, then he fly's off in the same direction each time. We usually have 85 eggs this time of year and we only have 64 and the count is going down each nest check!! What can we do??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Guessing it's an SY male. He may be from your colony looking for a place of his own. I have heard of them causing havoc when they arrive at a site but have not heard of them going to another site and disturbing nests. Somebody smarter than me will chime in soon.
2019- Currently 24 complete nests with 11 eggs. (5/24)
2018- 15 pair last count 49 fledged
2017 3 SY pair nested, 12 eggs total, fledged 10. 4 additional SY's stayed all summer but never paired/nested.
2016 1 pair fledged 4
2015 Visitors
2014 Visitors
2013 Moved 6 miles away, 1 pair fledged 2.
2012 30 pair fledged 100.
2011 12 pair (11 that nested), 43 fledged.
2010 5 pair, 21 eggs, 16 hatched, 14 fledged.

Hey beach42 he may just be stilling nest materials for his nest. I have a SY female that is doing the same thing but fortunately for me So far I don’t have many eggs. And she hasn’t broken any yet.
