Postby Robert » Sat Aug 11, 2018 7:41 pm

Hi I’m new here and had a question for anyone that has excluder gourds, I got some new excluder gourds with crescent entrance is the factory size Large enough to allow the martins in or do I need to enlarge the opening ?

Martin Colony History: 24 Super and Excluder Gourds on two gourd racks, all SREH. Full occupancy. My philosophy is to maximize fledge % with existing cavities rather than adding gourds to grow colony, thus providing opportunities for new colony expansion. Fledge over 100 nestlings yearly from 24 gourds. Band nestlings in cooperation with state university.

I have Excluders with both crescents and modified excluded entrances. Both are fine with no modifications. Martins enter without difficulty. No starlings have been able to broach either cavity although they try every spring for almost 10 years.Good choices for you.
