The martins have chosen Riney B Park in Nicholasville again as their summer roost site in the Lexington area. There were probably more martins there this evening than I have ever seen before in a Lexington area roost. The birds were diving into the triangular-shaped woodlot sandwiched between the two power line right-of-ways. The woodlot just to the west across the right-of-way from the triangle woodlot was also being used. I stood in the right-of-way between the woodlots during that 30 minutes between 8:30 and 9:00 pm and the martins flew low over and around me as they swarmed between the woodlots before settling in for the night. Coordinates for the triangle-shaped woodlot are 37 54 10.0 and -84 34 26.0. The woodlot consists of a dense stand of the ornamental callery pear trees all about 20 feet in height.
