DIY Purple Martin-made of PVC Foam Sheet
Has anyone thought of using this material for making a Purple Martin House instead of solid sheet or wood laminate sheet?

I've used this material for making feeding trays for my caged birds.
it's ultra light weight
I used PVC cement (glue) for all of the joints.

I think this will make a good material for nest inserts.

Hi Bumbee,
I like your innovative thinking and idea. I'm unfamiliar with the product, but if it doesn't crumble into fine styrofoam type balls/pellets and if it is very strong to hold against heavy winds, then I think it may just work. I don't know about its strength against pressures like wind, so I can't decide if it is a thumbs up or not. I'm thinking that if you used a thick enough selection it would work better and be more rigid.

Dave, Thank you. Next time you are at Home Depot, Go where you can find small sheets
of plexiglass. You can find 1/8" thick sheets of PVC Foam. They are not like the home
insulation foam board. They are a lot more dense. I think its the same material used in
those plastic moldings.

I thought about using the home insulation foam board. I have not figure out how to glue
them together. Super glue melts it and it does not do a strong enough joint like the PVC
foam.

I will visit the Home Depot and take a look. You were correct in knowing that I was probably thinking of the old home insulation foam board.
I think the PVC foam board is much better. I recall plans using foam board years ago on this website, but i couldn't find it.
Let me know how things turn out.

I think this material would be good for those who like the T14 Martin house.
All is needed is a 2 inch square pole, the smallest winch that is available on the market.
I am working on a look alike 3D model of the T14. This will be an easy build. all of the
parts are rectangular in shape. The most difficult part of this build is gluing the roof
and the entrance. the rest of the assemblies are typically a box.

Here is my 12 room PM house. W20"xD20"xH22".
Room = W6-1/2"xD10-1/2"xH6-1/2"

This can be made to a 16 rooms by adding 6-1/2" to the height to three walls of the 3 room frame
and adding 6-1/6" to the height of the elevator.

My X16RMS, this can be made to how big the floor space is, with out having to change
the size of the elevator.

them how you see fit.

The PVC Expanded Foam come in white and black. It does not matter for you can paint it
any color.
