Beware of the Create A Rack Gourd Arms advertised in the Purple Martin Conservation catalog. After a little wind, one end of the hanging hook holding one gourd was out of its hole. The gourd was hanging sideways with one hook engaged. Another gourd was stuck with the entrance hole facing down at 45 degrees.
I am using a clamp on the ends of the hooks to try and prevent these problems.
Create A Rack Gourd Arms
I used to have the same problem. Here is a simple solution. Go to your nearest hardware store and buy some heavy duty plastic coated wire. Thread the wire through the two holes in your gourds and then slip the other two ends through the attachment holes on the gourd racks and twist the ends around each other. This has worked for me for the last 5 years with absolutely no problems.
