Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.

2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).

Greetings!

Well, I am happy to say that my 2017 season is officially under way! I think yesterday's strong southerly winds brought them in.

What kind of camera were your pictures taken with?

Martin Colony History: Trying since 2014. Visitors, but no nests. Several colonies with in 6 mile radius.
2020- An SY male built a nest but could not attract a mate.

You pictures are always a welcomed sight. Keep em coming.
Bellefonte PA
2014, 1st year-a few lookers, no nests
2015, 'Spot' SY male, here every day from 5-28 to 6-23
2016 added a perch wire between house and gourd rack
offering 22 cavities, T-14 plus 8 gourds
2016, multiple visitors from 6-20 on. Almost daily
2017- Lots of visitors late in season.
2018- Adding another T-14. Few visitors
2019- Hopeful but stopped holding my breath
2020-SY male built a nest.

The camera used for the detailed photos was a Nikon D7100 with either the 70-300 mm Nikkor lens, or a Tamron 150-600mm. The first photo was taken with my iPhone 7 this morning.

Hey Chuck, very nice & great news!! Also do ur predator flashers work??!!! I bought some & put them up this yr!! I assume they don't scare the martins!!

They have worked for me so far! I have read where some folks have not had success with deterring stubborn owls, and I am hoping that it will at least prevent any from wanting to hit my housing. I have been using them for three years.

2016 big upgrade 56cavities 16 pairs great year
2017. 76 cavities 36 pairs
2018. 146 cavities

Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

Oh Chuck I've missed those beautiful pictures! Congratulations on you new arrivals! :)
