Theres a commercial that comes on t.v quite often here. In the background you can hear a male HOSP sounding the mate call chirp. My reflex automatically tells me to get up, grab my pellet rifle, go outside the patio doors and look to see where the little sneak is… then I realize… oh.. it’s the tv… !!! Even in the off-season.. it’s ingrained in me!!,
Ha!
Little suckers..
Long live the martins! Looking forward to their return..

Too true, watching TV you catch the background birds- all too often sparrows chirping. That must have been funny to watch happen!
Don't lose the instinct, now they are quieter...much more sneaky to me.
When they call they give themselves away and its just a matter of waiting for the little bazz-tards.

Rob, set out a feeder and put millet and cracked corn just in front of your blind. Im at 43 sparrows and 12 starlings.

Good plan Tom.. I want to keep my aim sharp and keep HOSPS thinned out!

Several years ago the PGA got caught piping in background noise at a PGA golf tournament. Some "birder" was watching and realized the bird he heard in the background was not native to that state/area. He called them out and they admitted to doing it.

Here is a link to one of the many stories. I have heard purple martins from time to time in the background of TV shows and news broadcasts....

Funny Stuff!
About all I watch on TV nowadays is the oldies and mostly at night. No news for me since todays journalist would rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stand on the ground to tell the truth. One of my favorite pastimes is grabbing some cold ones and sitting in my shop with the pellet rifle propped out of my favorite window. The beer is necessary for a nice steady aim.
