Martin Colony History: 2016 - late to put up, many visitors
2017 - 1 pair, 3 fledged
2018- 2 pair, 12 fledged
2019 - 4 pair, 21 fledged
2020 - ?

As the title says I did my first next check on 5/7 then did one today 5/20.


My gourds are numbered 1-18 clockwise with 8 on top and 10 on bottom. So as we travel clockwise:

5/7/20

1-4, 2-1, 3-6, 4-3, 5-4, 6-0, 7-5, 8-0
9-0, 10-4, 11-0, 12-0, 13-0, 14-0, 15-0, 16-0, 17-2, 18-6

Total eggs this week - 35

Gourds 9 and 15 show evidence of nest building.

5/20/20

1-4, 2-7, 3-5 babies, 4-5, 5-7, 6-0, 7-3 babies, 2 eggs, 8-0
9-0, 10-5, 11-0, 12-0, 13-0, 14-0, 15-0, 16-4 eggs, 17- 6 eggs, 18-2 babies 4 eggs

Totals for gourds this week:

Eggs - 44
Babies - 10

The gourds 11, 12, 13 and 14 currently have SY males occupying them looking for mates.

Trio Wade Update 5/20/20:

2 pair

4 eggs in one and 2 eggs in the other.


5/20/20 Totals
Grand total eggs - 50
Grand total babies to date - 10

All cavities are parasite free.

Good numbers this year for you. Nice to see a good landlord doing his duty doing a nest check and egg count. Keep up the great work.
Mite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

Thanks.

I'm looking forward to the next nest check next week. I anticipate other pairs to have started laying by then and the small clutches to get larger. No signs of intrusions or predation so all is good there.

Whippy, it might not be the location of the trio. The birds here at my house definitely prefer the gourds to my Duracraft castle. Now that I am getting several sy birds they are getting pushed over to it as I had hoped. Even they fight to get in the gourds before checking out the Duracraft.
