Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total (May2020)

I have a pair in a gourd and a male in the house. The gourd is starting to have signs of nest building soon (couple of oak leaves and a piece of pine straw).

I'm assuming the single male is trying hard to lure a female, and even right now as I write this I'm seeing an additional female on the gourd rack.. very exciting.

If he's unsuccessful, will he eventually leave? Or just keep trying?

Also.. here in south LA.. the SYs are gonna be here any day... That ought to create quite a ruckus. They can get nasty, so I worry a little about my paired couple. LoL.

My thoughts on that are if you have enough rooms available to accommodate them they will stay! As long as you don’t have other birds competing for rooms you should be ok.

It usually doesn't take an ASY male long to find a mate. If he doesn't lure in an ASY female the SY's will flock to him when they arrive.

Sounds good. Yes I have plenty of accomodations. He was trying to entice a female this morning. And the other male keeps going into a gourd with oak leaves. Nest building has begun for those two.

I'm sure the single guy will be successful. Im hoping he finds an ASY gal soon.. but if not , the SYs are starting to arrive down here

Looks like my single guy has a female visiting all morning... Unfortunately the other male keeps fighting with them. Very possessive!
