Some fun video

Postby Rafke77 » Wed Jul 24, 2019 11:39 am

Good afternoon or morning wherever you're located!
I know most of you are not new to this type of action but I hope it's not old for you, as it will never get old for me! This was video I took last night at 9PM. So much activity, we had about 20 or so flying around and fighting. We're guessing the one fighting is a mom to a late starting nest. Regardless, this was a blast to watch until I got called in for a dinner. Forgive our narrating lol.

It never gets old! Grouchy momma wants the whole place to herself. It looks like you are going to have many years of enjoyment. Thanks for the video, keep them coming.

Thank you GFB, that's exactly what we're counting on. We're really looking forward to next springs visit.

Something that I've wondered by watching them, before the parents leave and while the babies are out learning and coming back for the night, if all 24 of our gourds were occupied, between full size babies and the parents, conditions must get pretty cramped inside. It seems you almost need to put out extra gourds after they learn to fly. I wonder if some would start staying in the extra added gourds.

Last year the first time my birds fledged when they came back for the night each fledgling tried to get their own compartment but that only lasted that first night. After that for some reason they went back to the compartment that they were raised in. They must have been told they can't do that by the parents.

Lol, I can't tell if that's happening here, we had a lot of open gourds still. But I have noticed, at times, 3 sitting on a porch of one gourd, so it's possible.

*Just after I finished typing this a fourth landed on the same gourd.

Rob, Definitely did enjoy watching. Hope to have a bit of that activity here next season, rather than just on the lot adjacent to ours :)

Thanks for having posted.
