Dawnsong Vocalization

Postby Mitch Booth » Wed May 29, 2019 11:01 am

I was wondering at what stage of the migration do the adult males begin their Dawnsong? I have maybe approximately 20 -25 birds at the house with 8 active nests but no eggs at this time as of Monday. Do they typically wait to perform the Dawnsong AFTER the first eggs are laid? I've tried leaving my windows open and listening around 4:00-5:00am but typically they don't start chirping and carrying on until 6:30-7:00.

We are just a little south of you (Sugarcreek) and have approximately 70 active nests with a lot of eggs, "Not all nest yet" and ours are out at 4 - 4:30 each morning. So i would think yours will start anytime now or once the eggs are in the nest.
