Martin Colony History: Started in 1992 From neighbors old 1950-60's colonies. Have 8 Trio 6 Room Houses, 4 MPP Poles, 1 Heath Deluxe Gourd with Troyer Porch, 8 NatureLine Gourds with Troyer Porches, 5 Troyer Horizontals ,& 2 S&K 11" WITH Troyer Porches ready for 2019 Season !

Monday morning, as I was doing a nest check on one of my horizontal Troyer Gourds, #5, I opened the top to see that 5 of the 6 eggs had Hatched, But, the last one was capped & moving VERY Slightly ! :shock: I remembered what I read in PMCA about removing the cap, so that the Chick can Hatch. So I gently removed the cap. Today, when I did a nest check on T.H.#5, I found ALL 6 chicks had indeed hatched ! Thank you, PMCA ! :grin:

Martin Colony History: 2016- didnt know anything about martins, put up an all wrong house in 2016 and had two come by and inspect all the cavities. Left soon after not to return. Learned what i could on PMCA made adjustments and next year was successful.
2017- 5 pair. 15 fledged
2018- 18 pair. 85 fledged
2019- 17 pair. 81 fledged
2020- 25 pair. 111 fledged
2021:
Home colony: mix natural gourds, enlarged compartment house. All SREH.
Satelite colony: Oso Bay Preserve: 12 gourds: PMCA excluder gourds, 6 room trio mino castle with enlarged compartments.
2019: Visitors
2020: 3 pair, 11 fledged

Martin Colony History: In 2020, 60 pair with 285 fledged youngsters. 83 total cavities available, 58 Troyer Horizontal gourds and 4 modified deep trio metal house units, 1 fallout shelter, owl cages around all units. This is a prime example of why we should all do nest checks. Another baby martin saved by a vigilant landlord. Congrats . : )
Mite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

AND Yet, Another one, in one of my Trio House roomes , which was a little harder to spot, But, I was able to take it off ! :grin: Chick hatched just fine the next Day ! :grin:
