Super job Lynn. You seem to know how to raise a big batch each year. I had a late nest this year too.
Mite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

Thanks Dave I don't think it so much about my no how as it is about all the information I get from a site such as this one but this one was an exceptional year insects were plentiful very little downtime as far as weather was concerned during hatch to fledge! Congratulations on your late nest. Sure would enjoy hearing more about your colony also curious about the one over in Ames.

Thanks to all you Iowa landlords out there providing habitat for the pms and doing your part to flood the area with birds. Thanks to all of you I still hope someday soon I will be allowed to do my part and help Tim to bring them back to a more plentiful state in central Iowa.

Lynn, Dave, Tim and the Iowa crew; you are all leaders in the midwest with martins. We are a hands on group that make a difference in the martins world. Seems like the Iowa landlords are doers and make things happen. Great job. The Ames public site was very successful this season. 7 compartments full of eggs, 95% fledge rate; I now consider it an established colony for the years ahead.

Martin Colony History: My wife and I have been passive purple martin landlords for about 25 years
and decided to become active this past winter. We usually have about 14-15 nests. This year we have 15 nests with 59 live and 8 eggs yet from later arrivals.

Just finished 2018 season. Have been inactive landlords for about 20 years, now active. 15 active nests, 66 live, 60 fledged.
Used Sevin first time for nest mites, worked well. All metal houses, 5x11 boxes, crescent openings, only 1 artificial gourd used.
Really enjoyed them this year.
