Where's Toy ??

Postby Hanover Bill » Wed Jun 13, 2018 7:07 am

Has anyone seen any posts or responses from Toy in Eastern Pa. lately? I haven't noticed any myself, and it is unusual for her not to post or comment for this long. Hope everything is ok with her. I know she was in the middle of the second rough year in a row for her colony with weather issues, etc.

Hope all is well Toy.

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

Hi Bill....I'm here, sort of.

Counts so far this year (way down from last 3 years):
10 ASY Males - 2 killed = 8 here
7 females - 2 went missing after nests built(hawks?) = 5 here
24 eggs laid - 2 bad so far = 22 eggs - 2 hatched = 20 eggs in nests. I know at least 3 more of the eggs in nests are bad.
2 SY males visit, but not stayed yet. I have 1 ASY Male( Mr. Mean)that keeps chasing them away.
Have flipped over 3000 crickets so far due to cold & rain.

Have 3 ASY Males now with no mates & nests built. They all are still bringing in green leaves. Unless they find mates I'll only have 5 nests this year with eggs.

Hope you are having a good year.

Had to do a nest change (day 5) on the only nest with chicks. Blowfly evident. Blood on feet & legs of both chicks. Waiting for other eggs to hatch. One I thought had been pecked had a tiny piece of shell missing, the membrane was still intact, but I could see the pink chick inside. So it may hatch.

How's your season doing?

I'm not sure what you mean. You're welcome to post in my threads.

I imagine you likely know the answer to the yolk absorption question I had a few days ago. :)

Toy that’s to bad about your colony diminishing like that, so sad. I am a first year land lord and our weather here in Canada has been dry and very warm since the PMS have arrived. I guess every year is never the same, hopefully things will improve there. My colony is doing well in the incubating stage no babies yet I’m hoping any day now.
