First observation of females carrying nesting materials this morning. May 6th last year, so they essentially on track. With the weird spring weather this year and ASY martin numbers down somewhat from what I can count here, It is nice to see that the nesting urge is still present.Quite a few gourds have been chosen and are being defended. Maybe now I can count heads and come up with an accurate count.
SY male here two days ago with much agitation throughout the assembled ASY.
Hope all have a successful season.Take time for nest checks. Nest checks are essential.

- Martin Colony History: 24 Super and Excluder Gourds on two gourd racks, all SREH. Full occupancy. My philosophy is to maximize fledge % with existing cavities rather than adding gourds to grow colony, thus providing opportunities for new colony expansion. Fledge over 100 nestlings yearly from 24 gourds. Band nestlings in cooperation with state university.
