Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

I've had a pair since May 1. They have been bringing in birds everyday! Yesterday a pair of SY's was here for a while!
I looked in the cavity yesterday where they've been bringing in nesting material! She has a nice bowl and a few pcs. of green leaves in the bowl. Should be any day for an egg! I still have to pinch myself! I'm so happy they picked my home!
This is a picture I took of a beautiful sunrise with the pair in their gourd! The weather is 52* but just gorgeous outside this morning! Good luck to all!

Martin Colony History: 2016 First Yr.

So So Happy for you, your time has come and it will grow rapidly for you because you will be a caring great landlord....

So Prior to heading off to work this morning and As I was sitting on the front porch drinking my coffee @ 6:00 am and watching the martins being busy I realized that we are on our 1 yr. anniversary of our first birds. May 22 2016....How are life has changed and What fun this has been, Since then I have added another T-14 with some super gourds with all SRE holes as well as being adamant of not letting any sparrows close to our colony it has truly become a team event for my wife has taken a real interest in these guys as well and our colony has grown tremendously from 8 birds last yr. to this morning I counted 22 birds at our colony, the noise they make in the mornings is incredible and so heart warming it really is a joy. I posted a video of our colony on YouTube but not sure if we are aloud to post links on this site...but it truly has been a blast to watch.

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

Congrats Sharon :). I sure hope they have a nice clutch & they all fledge for you.

Sharon,
That's awesome I told you it was your year. The SY's are still coming because I have more and more every day looking at gourds. I'm already up to 15 pair in my second year so I know you will grow!
