Sun 05/29/2016 4:30 pm. 85 degrees and mostly cloudy here in SE Ohio. Total of six eggs in five cavities; four in a house and two in gourds on a rack. Most of the eggless cavities have a lot of green stuff inside but even the ones with no green inside have a bowl scooped in the pine straw. There is an abundance of food right now: not only are the 17-year Cicada's hatching, our neighbor is baling hay in a field that borders our yard; the PM's and other birds are gobbling down the insects he is stirring up.

Side note: Robins and Bluebirds fledged two little ones each this past week.

Congrats. Keep us all posted on how the egg total/hatchling numbers play out.

We had our first two pair last year (12 fledglings). As I posted earlier in a different note, so far this year we have 5 pair and 24 eggs. Hope you see similar growth next year.

I hope so too, tlragsdale. We have more nesting PMs than we had eggs last year, so it looks like we're on our way!

We had at least 19 eggs yesterday. I say "at least" because two of the nests had a PM sitting in them and I quietly closed the door without trying to see how many eggs were beneath them. They didn't flush though; stayed quietly on the nest and watched me. (We also peeped into the Tree Swallow nest nearby and counted five little mouths. It looks like the PMs intentionally mess with the Tree Swallows but the Swallows defend the nest and the parents have taken a couple of PMs to the ground and pecked the crap out of them!)
