Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

I enjoy looking at the scout report. I look at it everyday once they start arriving in Florida. They'll be heading back before we know it. Time flys around here! Jupiter and Pembroke Pines was the first report on Dec.28,2013

Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.

2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).

Hi there Sharon! Yes, I was just thinking that it will not be long before the scout reports start coming in from the southernmost areas (south Florida and Texas). I don't expect any of my martins until March though. Believe me, I'll be watching for them! :)

Martin Colony History: Started in 1992 From neighbors old 1950-60's colonies. Have 8 Trio 6 Room Houses, 4 MPP Poles, 1 Heath Deluxe Gourd with Troyer Porch, 8 NatureLine Gourds with Troyer Porches, 5 Troyer Horizontals ,& 2 S&K 11" WITH Troyer Porches ready for 2019 Season !

 Thanks Sharon & Chuck! And here I was thinking I'm crazy to keep telling myself that I have 3 months (Jan. 29) until my first scout arrives!,AND I'm looking into a landlord in Austin who is closing & taking down 3 to 4 square poles he bought from the PMCA store,& if I can get/save them, I'll see IF I can use or convert some of my housing with them. That's what caught my eye when Louise posted the political sign thread, it would be easier for me to do that with Square poles than 3 section poles! Happy CountDowning!

It's hard to believe, just 2 month ago martins were still at my place and in 2 month they will be back in Florida.

James, I too start putting up gourds at Christmas, have quite a few to put up so it takes me a while, I do a few at a time. When its cold or raining, I wait a few days for better weather. Today I was bagging pine needles, so I am getting ready

Yeah Emil the pine needles are coming down today! We are having wind gusts up to 40 mph. I have picked up some already but need more for nest change! (If I get a nester)! :)

Great time for that chore! Love doing for our martins :)

Good luck next spring!

Did some thinning and some modifications, so I'm playing the waiting game but I hope they wait till March to come back home...Last year there was snow on the houses when they arrived. Best of luck to everyone???
