Well, it was a great site to look out at my feeder yesterday morning and see the first Red Winged Blackbirds and Grackles of the season. It made me realize spring can't be too far away, although with temps dropping to around 5 degrees the next couple of nights, I need some extra convincing.

I'm looking at the bright side, and hoping that crazy, grumpy, Groundhog was wrong.

Stay warm everyone.

Hanover Bill.

I had one grackle at my feeder for 2 days . he is gone now. Not any red wings yet. To me when I see them it means spring is on the way. But today I woke up with it cold and snow flurries. And one little robin at my window wanting grapes. I realize I still have a while for spring.
2008 first year 1 pair. 2009 3 pair. 2010 7 pair. 2011 20 pair . 2012 44 pair 280 eggs 210 fledged. 2013 67 pair. 2014?

I've got quite a few red-wings but no cowbirds. The cowbirds usually are a few days ahead of the martins so not sure where they might be. Lots of those "rusty hinge" sounds! Hope they'll be on the move soon since they are seed pigs!

I too have Red Wing Black Birds here now. This usually means Spring is real near. But not too sure this year. Down to 12 last night an doesn't look any better for next week or more. We may have to hand out some Long Johns
