Anyone ever repainted a trio 12 compartment house?

How well did the paint stick? Also did you do any special prep work?

I took an old trio, changed it to 6 rooms, insulated the attic and repainted everything.
I washed it with soapy water, dried it off then sanded with a sheet of fine sandpaper. Just before painting with spray enamel I wiped it down with paint thinner. I recently put a picture on the forum under the title Some pics of my site, It's on the Hybrid Multi house rack.

THanks guys.. just wondering if there was more to it than the normal, metal painting prep work. Just don't want it flaking off in a a season or two.

The reason I am asking is because I picked up two 15-20 year old trio grampa's in fine shape for $75 total including poles. They barely had and dents and the poles were pretty straight. An outside paint job this winter and they will be looking like new. I drove by a house and saw them in the down position with winter doors on and knocked on the door and that evening I was 2 trio's richer.

Dorn county,
Sweet find! like others have said, take it apart, your trio rails and such, they just pop off. clean the rooms, 1 part bleach. 3 parts water. let those dry.clean the outsideof the house and let dry. you can lightly sand the exterior, i never have, just use a good spray primer.i use the 1 1/2 inch blue duct tape, seems to peel off well, to mask off the the roof and any other thing you dont want painted. let that dry a day, then i use a good high gloss spray paint you can buy at any parts store,. im sure you can use flat white, i prefer gloss. dont expect to cover the house in one coat, spray about 8 inches from it give it the first coat , let dry 12 hrs, and do it again. see what it looks like , touch up if needed. i take the blue tape and cover the holes, then take a exato knife around the hole to leave enough tape covering so paint dont enter the rooms. my railings and preches were green, but my house was white, (take your time)
good luck

Dorn county.
im sorry i failed to mention this, i put little pieces of toothpicks in the railing(perch) holes before painting. , i didnt once and my paint covered the slots where the rails and perches fit,, once dried made me more work putting it back together.ive never tried this , but you may put vasoline lightly around the slots, where the the perches fit in , paint wont stick to that. , let me know how it all works out. im sure it will be fine!
sincerely, Pm charter 1
