As you can see, my subbies have been busy! I don't know how they think their little family will fit in this compartment with all of this material, but I guess they have a plan. I will definitely give them an "A" for effort. They're working hard! Has anyone else had any mess tenants like this? I hate to say it, but a sparrow nest is tidier than what I'm seeing here.

Yes, some little white eggs would make this place shine! It's been pretty chilly the past couple of day. I'm hoping that when it warms up in the next day or so, they'll get down to business.

There is a slight depression in this mess against the back wall of the compartment. I'm assuming that this will become the actual nest. I guess all of the rest of it is just their idea of pretty decorations! Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder!

Congratulations on getting a pair, Candace!! Nothing attracts martins like martins so you now have the best thing you could have!! That nest looks pretty much like the majority of mine so it must be a Kansas thing! Not all of mine have mud but probably 4 or so do. Sure hoping this rainy weather scoots on out of here. My first nest is going to hatch soon and it needs to be dry and a little warmer. Somehow I think the *warmer* is coming..................boy will it be coming!! Again, congrats and I hope you still get more this year!!

Dawn, you're right about PMs attracting more PMs. On Monday, another subbie male showed up. He has a hard time getting on the house because my resident male can be pretty protective. But after their little testosterone displays, he is eventually allowed access to the house! I noticed this morning that he had a visitor with him. She went in and out of the vacant compartments and stayed for awhile. Then there was all kinds of commotion as a few other birds flew over. I think she may have left with them. This is the same routine that happened with my resident pair, so I'm holding out hope that the new guy will get himself a mate.

Yes ... I know the hot weather will get us here in KS probably sooner rather than later! But I did hear some good news. Kansas City has a weather man named Gary Lezack. He has been working on a climate theory for the past several years that has proven to be pretty accurate. According to this theory and his analysis of this year's weather patterns, he's predicting a cooler than normal summer. He said we might have a moderate heat wave of a few days in July or August, but he doesn't see prolonged, excessively hot days. Let's hope he's right!
