Re: Lone Bird

Hi Connie I sympathize with your feelings that would be awful hard to take watching it go on. When you had the little one in your hand did you notice how it's Health was was ,was it injured from the fall? Do you think in that hot weather there could be a infestation of mites possibly driving him out...

Re: ASY male comes by everyday!

Sharon it wouldn't surprise me if your ASY male thats showing up regularly has and is in the process of bringing up a family somewhere else. While she is tending to the nest and incubating the eggs they may even have very young babies at this time, and soon he will probably be bringing them to your ...

Re: New member here

Hi John and congratulations on your success and welcome to the forum even though you're not new. Isn't it just amazing on how many different circumstances there are ,and ways to get Martin's or ways not to get them ,everybody has their own little story . Who would ever think there's so many differen...

Re: I have a wren messing around!

Sounds good Sharon looks like you're getting closer we all have our fingers crossed for you. I was just teasing you about the confusion, however I did have a house wren nest last year and one of my gourds in the gourd rack. I left her be and she cause no problems at all but I'm really not an expert ...

Re: How do SY males attract a mate

Hi Bootjack I was looking at the forum and I just happen to come across your topic ,don't know how I missed it in the beginning. Is there any possibility that the SY that came to your site might have been a female instead of a male and that could be the reason why the bird was so quiet. I am a littl...

Re: Sy's still arriving in PA

Dan ,Toy is right a lot of people have wasted a lot of time trying to get a Martin colony started but trying to mess with blue birds and trees at the same time. Unless you live in a rich Martin area , don't mess with the BBs and Trees wait until you have your colony established first then you can ha...

Re: 10 Eggs in one gourd. Advice please

It's called candling, make yourself a square box about 10 in.Place a 60 W or40W lightbulb in it and make a hole a little smaller than the egg ,put the egg in the hole and you should be able to see the blood lines in the egg . Hope that works for you . Turn the egg slowly don't leave it in the hole t...

Re: What about this?

Mama, I like your last idea better about the cool drink in the shade that sounds like something I think I'm going to do this afternoon. However I must say that I have also smashed up your tractor supply grit you almost have to get some of those big pieces down to size that way, I am also realizing t...

What about this?

We all know that the grit that they're selling now days called Oystershell is really garbage compared to what they used to have in the past. I am wondering if you think there's any merit in this idea? If we were to take fresh muscle shells for example and heat them to destroy all the bacteria, and c...

Re: Do fledglings stick around?

If it were me I would leave it like it is the young ones will find other entrances to enter for the short time that they're going to stay . You might need another box or some guards for next year though . Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your two pair , I'm not sure about Texas but maybe ...

Re: When to put up new gourds?

Hi Jan sorry I didn't notice you were so new to the forum when I wrote last night. Welcome to the forum . What I meant to say was go ahead and put your bo11s up as soon as you can because they will help you get more martins ,there is still time in your area. Then you can take care of the S&S as they...

Re: No pond

Hi and welcome to the forum . I know many more people who don't have a pond on their property than do have. Having a neighbor who has a colony and a pond within a half mile of your place is more of a help than a hinderance. Once you get martins at your place they will be loyal to your place rather t...

Don't wait to kill the sparrow another will come after he's gone anyway. What you need to do is get your rack up as soon as possible to help your colony look better for attracting more martins. good luck. Ed

Re: Landlord Wannabe... Need advice from the Experts.

Hi Kyle welcome to the forum. If it were me I would keep the metal houses up at least for now, you might be able to put them in the form of a little triangle and put your T14 in the center it is easier to attract Martin's with a few more houses than just one only. Your biggest problem with the extra...

Re: Well they sure acted like they were interested!

Sharon Mona and I were just talking about your thread and we both kind of agree that it sounds like good news that you're getting that many ASY visiting and when the subs are really not here to speak of ,so maybe it'll be good news after all. It's also possible that some of these ASY visitors will c...
