Re: Good to be back on a Martin forum!

Hi welcome back, I think this is the old forum with the new facelift you have to get used to it ,I think you'll like it better. It's still has a few glitches but on the average it has some real nice new things also. Actually, I think it's still the best one of course some people say I am A little bi...

Re: Concern in Western Pa. ????

Hi Bill, here we go again ,my birds are down also but then again they were last year at this time. It seems as though every time I stick my neck out and say I'm having a bad year I wind up with a very good year at the end . The thing that is different for me this year is my lack of barn swallows. Ba...

Re: 50 plus pairs loss in Upstate NY.

Cransy,I have been watching the scout report daily hoping to see your name come up. I haven't seen a new bird ln at least the last five days ,my daughter still has her same old male with no change and Chautauqua Institute and , Long point both have large colonies and I haven't seen either one of the...

Re: 50 plus pairs loss in Upstate NY.

Cransy ,I forgot to mention that we have not seen one tree swallow or barn swallow yet . I have over 30 pair of barn swallows in my barn and usually they're not this late, so maybe that will help a little . Good luck. Ed.

Re: 50 plus pairs loss in Upstate NY.

Hi Cransy, I've been looking for your scout report and wondering why you were a little bit slow, that is devastating and I'm terribly sorry to hear about it. Hopefully some of the birds will return ,things are very slow down here in my area . I have three that just came in at the Vikings this mornin...

Re: Ohio Valley Martins

Hi Jake Jake, I don't mean to hijack your thread but I did think it was important to answer Belpre gray,s thread. Maybe at this point it might be better to put some crickets on the porches that you know the birds are using. If the birds have not had food in two days you really don't want to waste th...

Re: Maximum temperature for nesting compartment?

I don't think I have a very good answer to your question in regards to the temperature that Martin's like best, it could have something to do with humidity as well. I know that when I see my Martin's in this area out in the 90° temperature they are quite often panting. However that is in the norther...

Re: Late Nest

Stan, you've really had an extended season it sure helps us get ready for winter. It seems as though the Subbies stay with their Ness a lot better than the adults . Maybe it's because this is their first family and they don't have the previous experience in joining the roost on their way back. Your ...

Well Sharon you were right I would've bet against you but had I did that I would've lost. At five minutes after seven here come the two little ones in about 10 to 12 minutes after that the male showed up , they were really happy to see him ,they flew around together for a while then the male went in...

Hi p.m. lover, congratulations on your 2016 season, your results are fantastic. Your birds are very lucky to have you as their landlord. I am curious about your feeding system and technique, you must have it down pat, your knowledge would be very helpful to many of us as well as new people. What for...

Re: Late late nest finally fledged 8/20

Hey John, the late nest has been just terrific this year they're still coming as of tonight. The female has been staying with the young in their same nest up till about three or four days ago, then the male stayed over in the nest next to them .Now for the last two nights the female has not been her...

Re: Late late nest finally fledged 8/20

John I didn't see any birds at all today during the day and at that magic hour about 7:30 four birds came in and it happened to be the mother, father and the two babies. The male did as he's been doing since the little ones fledged he saw to it that everybody got into the gourd and then he left for ...

Re: Late late nest finally fledged 8/20

Hi John, it's good to hear all four of your young in your late nest fledged. Yes, when ever you have little ones ready to fledge others show up to help with the fledging even if it's late in the year. This year I had two late nests one was at my satellite site, five eggs four fledged on 8/16 all wen...

Re: Is nesting over in SE Michigan?

Hi DQ welcome to the forum. I'm sure you're probably aware of the fact that when you have some youngsters getting ready to fledge that other birds from nearby colonies seem to know that and they join in on the celebration ,could be those 10 birds are part of that. I have a pair of Subby's that are h...
