Re: New challenge with Tree Swallow

Yes open a few cavities because if you don't you are going to lose your Martin ,you should be getting birds in that area pretty soon anyway if the tree swallow continues to want the opening discourage him . Ed

Re: Help choosing PM housing site at nature center

I tend to mimic all of the ideas that Doug has, though I do understand the other aspects as well. I also think that at least 90 some percent of the time the children will be supervised and a lot of them at that particular age will have enough sense to enjoy nature and hopefully respect the way the b...

Re: A cheap predator guard for telescoping pole?

If you put your netting at the top of the pole and caught a snake that would frighten your birds away for good, put you're net at the bottom. Ed

Re: S & K snap-shut access covers

Yes you are. Just turn the cover Upside down, insert the bottom first and push on from the top . Listen for the snap when the top pops on, It will still be a little tight but it's the easiest way to do it and they will stay on well . Hope this works for you, and good luck with getting some birds thi...

Re: The fence rows are coming down!

Sharon: I guess dreams really do come true. The hawks will have more trouble ambushing your martins. It will be so nice to see your birds flying in the distance. What I like most is it will open up that pond that is surrounded by trees and your birds will really love that advantage (if that is a pon...

Re: DIY Gourd Rack that attaches under metal houses -Pics Please

Hi Bootjack: I made one for my daughter several years ago, I picked up the idea here on the forum but I can't remember who's thread it was. I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow and send it to you. It was like a treated lumber disc, two inches thick by around one foot in diameter and there were...

Re: Earliest banding age

It seems to young to me, but I don't know much about banding of wild birds. if she is a federal bander give her my name and I would be happy to have her band some of mine. My guess is they would have to be closer to fledging time but those who know more about banding can advise you better. Glad you ...

That's a little unusual especially the two pair coming together as adults probably their earlier nesting got in the way of a storm or possibly a predator problem at A colony nearby ,but anyway that's real good luck for you, congratulations have a good season.
