Re: Tough couple days of poor weather.

Well, it was another cold cloudy damp but calm morning so I decided to go out and feed the birds. I thought I would toss some before I put food in the trays, but I didn't have any crickets in the freezer as I use deride mealworms mostly . I decided to scramble a egg it,s pretty hard getting a freeze...

Re: Tough couple days of poor weather.

Flying low, very glad to hear you got your birds supplemental feeding. I have to say yesterday was an extremely bad day for us in this area and it was raining most of the day with cold temperatures, at one point it was raining so hard that while the birds for eating out of the tray the water was spl...

Re: I beleive I lost my Alpha Male Waldo.

Hi Doug, sorry about Waldo it's amazing how attached you can get to a certain bird over a period of time. My foundation bird I had for quite a few years so I know exactly how you're feeling just part of a hobby I guess ,good luck in the rest of the season Ed .

Re: A new twist to supplemental feeding.

Doug my results are very much like you are describing with the supplemental feeding. Toy I had trouble years ago getting mine started too and what I finally did was screwed about five or six decoys all around the tray pointing down into the tray with some of them. Then when those cold days come in e...

Great job Sharon, you worked hard and deserve every bit of pleasure they are going to give you. Just thinking ,try to work on the supplemental feeding when you get a chance, keep fresh grit and egg shells in your bed and breakfast they will get used to going there just in case we get some bad weather ...

Just fill a cotton ball with Vanilla Extract, (pure) mostly towards the fall of the year or high rain & humidity. At least that's what I do. Ed

Re: Martin update in upstate NY

Hi Cransy I'm glad you've got so many birds are they all supplemental feeding or just a large percentage of them? This weather is getting to be too much I'm afraid we're gonna lose a lot of birds in this area if it doesn't change real soon. I pulled my rack down this evening to put handwarmers and t...

Re: Mite - blowfly control and nest management

Thanks Tor for your come back, I think I am going to continue as I have in the past with my nest changes. I use a quarter teaspoon of seven and change the nests at 10 days in 20 days . Ed S. thanks for your information and extensive research. The thing that makes me wonder sometimes is and I'm sure ...

Re: Mite - blowfly control and nest management

We don't use sevin. We have been using Permethrin, and it works extremely good for us. Have not had any form of parasites, no jumpers, and no nest changes since. I take the gourds down every year for cleaning and storage. When season is getting close, the gourds get hung up on the racks, pine straw...

Sometimes in those temperatures a lot depends on the day if it's windy or lack of sun influences the flight of insects . They may be able to find a little warmer temperature near a swamp or lake ,getting in a cove or bay that`s protected . Insects may be are ably to fly there. Seems like as far sout...
