Looking at your pictures it looks like the martins are relaxed and sitting around and enjoying the day. I see you have no leaves on the trees yet. I am sure they will be coming out soon. There wont be any leaves here for a while yet, we still have over a foot of snow on the ground. :-( Last year som...

I dont know if this means anything or not but two years ago when I put mirrors on one of my houses I got one pair of subbies to nest in that house. The next year (last summer ) I took them off and had no nesting pair. Wheather the mirrors had anything to do with this I cant say one way or another. I...

Waxing or greasing a pole will not stop a predator from climbing a pole. About the only good it will do is whatever is climbing a greased pole will have to spend time cleaning itself afterward. If your only option is mounting your predator guard six feet up is figure out a way to eaisly remove it to...

If a squirrel can climb your pole there are plenty of other critters around that can climb it as well anytime day or night. Why cant you put up a predator gaurd of some sort?

Last spring an elm tree in our yard died from Dutch Elm disease. I left it standing so it could dry out on its own figuring that this winter when I got time I would cut it down. Somehow the Pileated Woodpeckers and other woodpeckers around here knew that under the bark the tree was full of grubs the...

No 12"is not too big although I wouldent hang up anything bigger that thing will catch a lot of wind up there.
One thing I have done with a couple of my 12"+ gourds is to put a divider in them and an entrance on either side of the divider.

Thats what my gourd plants looked like when we had our first frost back on Seop. 23rd. Now the garden is stripped and tilled and seeded with rye for a cover crop which hasent come up yet because it is too dry. Watering hasent helped.

There are a lot of them around here they have stripped all edible berries off of everything that has them. Next spring the Early Robins and Bluebirds will be going hungry when we get a late spring snow.

I know how you feel Delma. After having one pair last year and back to no pair this year it is back to looking forward to next year. Like you I had many come to look and some came back again and again, but none stayed. I think a Coopers hawk hand the wrong kind of welcome mat out for them #$%^ it! :x

I would like some martin company also. My pair from last year did not show up there were a few visitors this spring then a couple of weeks ago a pair of subbies showed up and stayed around for a few days but now all is quiet at my site again. :-(
So, I am back to hoping for next year again.
