Re: Presque Isle Roost in Erie PA

There are always owls at the roost, by the way. I wouldn't attribute this movement to a few owls...although I really can't say what the reason is. Once we figure out how martins think, this will all be a lot easier.

Re: Presque Isle Roost in Erie PA

Just when I was ready to give up, it began showing up on radar. It seems to be somewhere else on the peninsula. We're going to do a coordinated hunt for the location early next week.

Re: Carthage, Mo Roost Report

These are estimated locations from the last few days. Keep in mind that the radar cannot get exact locations since it doesn't pick the birds up until they're flying. The numbers represent how many days ago the radar indicated the location. The real truth is probably somewhere in the middle. carthage...

Re: Carthage, Mo Roost Report

I actually just looked at the radar data from the last few days for Carthage. It looks like the birds might be somewhere northwest of their old roost location. If someone would like to hunt for it, I can try to get some specific gps coordinates form the radar.

Yesterday morning's rescue operation was a success. The nestling had a carpenter ant clamped on its beak. This happened in last year's camera nest as well...must not be that uncommon. Fledging is projected to start tomorrow, but they sure look ready to go today! Make sure to check in on the c...

Re: Season Two of the PMCA's Nest Cam is now live!

Yep. That's enlarged from the GPS that we put on one of the camera parents last year. The GPS units make it too difficult for them to enter the nest without expanding the hole.

We're planning on trapping one of the parents early next week to deploy our last unit.

He's definitely more attentive than the deadbeat of a father we had last season.

The intruder in the big fight sure looked like a subbie female. Mike, although a good theory, we don't have any nests near fledging. The oldest birds we have anywhere around here are only a week or so old.
