Tim, I don't know the reasoning, but when you go to the "scout report form", the very bottom paragraph is where I read those instructions. Here's my interpretation. On a new site, they rules are not to report ANYTHING until the SY's come and STAY at the new site. At an existing site that had breedin...

So , Scott and Mary.... I guess you did not report your founding birds as returning scouts because they were ASY's at a new site? Seems strange they wouldn't be counted, but, oh well, I'll follow instructions. If I get ASY's as founding birds, I'll not register them as returning scouts. But your luc...

Alrighty then.... No ASY reports at all if my house has not yet been successful in attracting martins this far, whether they stay or not.
I should only report the SY martins observed here, whether they stay or not.

I am aware that ASY generally will not take up residence at a new location.

Great!! I will report anything I see as long as I KNOW it is truly a main.

The last paragraph in the reporting guidelines is misleading to me. I'll reread it too, to see how I misread the instructions. :???:

Confused

To register Martin observations/scouts at my location, my martin house MUST have occupied and had breeding pairs the previous year. Is that correct? Since my Martin house has been empty for about 4 years, I should not report anything this year, even if I am successful in attracting them?

Thanks Matt.... All this time I thought I purchased excluder II, but with your handy reference chart I see I have the excluder. I have used the Spar-o-door years ago and had trouble with the sparrows not wanting to jump into the tube. Sometimes they would jump in as soon as I jiggled the house. Othe...

Hole reducers, that easily clip on to existing holes - round and starling resistant.
Maybe something available with the insert traps?
What a great idea!!!

Thanks all...I have no martins yet, but I sure want to avoid removing one from a glue strip. If I knew the Universal Sparrow trap would work with my Trio and the "excluderII" entrance, I would purchase it.

If I could figure out which Trio I have....hmmm...

I can't remember what kind of Trio house I have. It looks like the Musselmanthat's pictured in the shop, but don't know how to identify for sure. I have owned it at least 10-15 years. I can raise and lower it on a pulley system. It has two levels and 12 apts (converted to 6 condos). The SHOP info sa...

But the mocking birds can sound sooo much like martins. I played Dawnsong for days and days. Now my mbird is quite the mimic. He continues to fool me....I keep looking when the mbird calls thinking maybe, just maybe, it might be the real thing. I have seen martins and had visitors but no takers. I w...
