Re: SY pair visited today
Heavy The one thing I have learned, they are experts at driving us folks crazy. I don’t think they have been taught, that they shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Too bad they aren’t more willing to accept our hospitality when we have taken the time and effort to offer it. All we want to do i...

Don’t know if I ever mentioned it before but my hope is that martineering will be part of my retirement plan. Here I am 63 and my plan is to stop the old 8 to 5 by 67. Sure hope i...

your may want to get a prognosticator from the pmca. I did, when I had a group for a while in April. looks like a great tool, maybe someday I'll get to put it to use.

If they are just now starting to show interest down in Missouri, hopefully they'll start getting their act together up hear in Iowa too. Sure been dead up here since mid May. Hope I don't have to scratch another year, this is getting beyond depressing.

Re: Great News.
If there's any veteran pilots there, I would think they would really get a kick out of them. The flight characteristics of Purple Martins always have reminded me of fighter planes, the way they soar, dive and maneuver. I'm sure a lot of them would enjoy nest checks also. Maybe some day I will get to...

Re: Midwest Memorial heatwave
Everybody, Thanks for the input. I was kind of hopeful this heat would throw things into high gear, and cause the sy birds to seriously concentrate on search mode for housing and mates. I observed a lot yesterday and today and there is just nothing going on. My thinking is that the asy birds tempers...

Midwest Memorial heatwave
Curious about what you folks that have hosted Martins for several seasons think that this early heat wave will do to this years migration and their general behavior? The past couple of weeks have been unusually quiet around here, now this.

kim,
I feel your pain. I hope we get some of these subbies still moving north to find us and move in. It's just got to happen, we have paid our dues.
Very best of luck to you,
Dave

Re: Subadults Destroying Eggs
hopefully the adults will attack the little stinker and take him down to the ground and give him a good spanking. I have a vacant site and the subbies can move right in. Sure wish they would. I consider myself a patient man but this is nuts.

Re: Subbies
Had a dozen sub-adults come in with our Martins Wednesday evening. It was kinda strange sun was setting and "all" of our Martins left the Colony and went out onto the main lake. I was thinking "Hawk Attack" and walked down there but nobody was fussing. They came back with more sub adults in tow. On...

Purple Martin Droans
Everybody, You know how all us wanabees have heard time and time again, and I quote, "You don't have Martins, because you don't have Martins" Well here's my challenge, someone needs to come up with a 3 or 4 pack of Purple Martin droans that can be programmed to fly around our site. The way Martins s...

Dave / Lynn,
Thanks so much for your support. I just wish a group would knock me off my feet like the migrants did a month ago.

Re: Please report your Subbies
Lynn, Thanks for your report. I’m taking a stay cation this week. I scanned the sky just after noon and the sky was full of soaring Martins, but they showed little interest except for one that made a quick circle around my site and continued on. It was like seeing a bunch of swarming bees, there had...

Re: Please report your Subbies
Tim / Dave / Lynn, Had my first sightings last night since the group of migrants left back in April. They were all too high to identify, but must have counted 6 or 8 in an hour before sunset. When I started seeing them I cranked up the vocals a little more, because they acted like they weren't heari...
