I keep my HOSP trap on top of my Bantam chicken house, as they are always trying to squeeze into the chicken house to steal food. I think because of all the manuevering they do to get in the house, they have no problem squeezing into the trap.

John, I also totally agree with Craig, that Redtails are not a threat. Once again though, Louise has an excellent point that during fledging they could prey on youngsters on the ground.
I don't believe they would ever target a colony like a GHO or Accipiters will.

John, I had the same thing happen once with a Coopers Hawk. They hunt my feeders in the winter,I shot a starling, and as it flopped, the Coopers zoomed in and nabbed it. Lucky for me and my PM's they don't seem to hang out once spring comes. That said,I wouldn't want to provide him anymore free meals,n...

Connie, there are plans available for a Troyer S&S controller trap. You can buy the inner workings already assembled from Troyer, this would make the conversion much easier. I would suggest you do an internet search for this trap. I am not sure if PMCA sells the "see-saw" part of the trap or not. Th...

It is a very cool house, personally, I would convert it to an S&S controller. Then you could enjoy the beauty of it, and the functionality.

I feel it is Much more important to have an open flyway (over offering round holes) in trying to attract them. If the visiting PMs like the site, and the trash beaks are controlled by shooting and trapping, they will readily accept SREH. Using SREH automatically reduces 1/2 of the trash birds that y...

I have been misting for the past 4 days, temps are around 105 and humidity is 43%. I have 2 sy nests that have been hatching thru this heat, and 7 other nests with older babies. At the end of the day, I take down the mister and all of the babies seem to be in excellent condition. Yesterday I walked ...

Nest Check Results of Growing Colony!!!!

9 active nests have so far; fledged 7, 20 babies of varying ages being fed,11 eggs yet to hatch! 100 here today, & have been misting, seems to be plenty of food despite moderate drought. This heat is definitely a challenge, I am glad I vented all of my gourds last winter, and I'm also glad to be a m...
