Mistaken identity.

I once shot a Dickcissel because I thought it was a house sparrow, and last year I had a Lark Sparrow build two partial nests in one of my Martin Houses. It finally gave up the job but could have been shot because of mistaken identity. I now try to be absolutely positive of ID before I pull the trig...

I use 3 very sensitive repeating traps that I built and a Ruger target 10/22 with a good scope. I also have hawks but no problem with them yet. Owl guards are a good idea. I have two T-14's with Owl guards. Most folks use SREH entrances. I use round entrances, but being retired I have a lot of time ...

Sorry about your Blue Bird bluetick. I'm still trapping (and shooting) Starlings and Sparrows. Year round project.

Well, the birds made a liar out of me. Just stepped out on the porch and there's probably close to 20 hanging out on the houses.....Almost like the start of the season. Anyway, I keep the welcome mat out all the time.

My birds are mostly gone also. There's a couple that come almost every day for a short visit. Sometimes they perch on the houses and sometimes just circle above.

jr 2,
my birds have been doing that for a week or more. They swarm around one house and then another. Have no idea what it's about. no predators, no Starlings, no Sparrows around.

Lark Sparrows have decided to nest somewhere else. Haven't seen them in three days now.I think the Martins chased them away. Probably a good thing.

Louise, This one has been flitting around house to house all week. Didn't give it much thought except I knew it wasn't a House Sparrow, and then this morning it was bringing in nesting material. It chose an empty cavity and kept after it although the Martins didn't approve of it. I probably spent tw...

Well, the Martins are fussing about it, but yes, I have room so I won't keep it from building a nest.

Looks like a Chipping Sparrow to me. It was taking nesting material to my Purple Martin house. ? ? ? ?
p.s. In flight the bottom of the tail feathers show a white border.
