I had two of the springer guns. Hated both of them so gave them away. Bought a Benjamin Marauder 22. I can usually hit a sparrow at 50 yards, and that's pretty good for an old codger with the shakes....Marauder is pretty pricey but they are quiet and accurate and well worth every penny.

HOUSE CLEANING

I have removed my aluminum houses. Even with modification they are just too hot in the weather I get in S/E Oklahoma. Having the babies jump from the heat is pretty awful. I have three T-14's and a home made wooden one with 16 holes that I am keeping. Plenty of room for the birds that come here and ...

I'm not seeing any Martins last couple of days. In 2012, I saw the last one on August 2, so it's time for them to leave. Looking forward to next year already..

I know a fellow who shoots squirrels for getting into the bird feeders, yet he lets Sparrows build and raise their young....Amazing....
Hey Mark, it's sparrows zero and me 4 so far today....couple of fantastic (lucky) 50 yard shots with the Marauder, and two in my repeating trap.

I had two of the break barrel guns but was never able to master them. Just had to give it up and buy a rifle that was more "Old Man Friendly". The Marauder filled the bill.

New batch of Sparrows arrived..Took care of 8 of them...I like the new Marauder. Good back up for my repeating traps. All the babies have fledged. Still have several Martins sticking around though. Enjoyment isn't completely over yet...

Ok. I need something to keep me steady too. I'm 72 and really shaky. I do use shooting bags to help me. Otherwise I probably couldn't hit an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper....I'll keep tweaking my scope to try and improve what I'm doing.

I like the Marauder also. I have two of them. Quiet and fairly accurate. I have mine tuned at 30 yards and usually shoot a one inch group at that distance. I have some 1/2 inch groups but they aren't grouping where I am aiming. Still tuning on both guns at different distances. I have made kills at 4...

No William. I don't have netting. I got him with a Benjamin Marauder 22.
Never seen any around here, so I couldn't see the need for netting. This may change my mind...

I caught a 6 footer today. Rat Snake or King Snake. Trying to climb up to the Blue Bird Box. First time I've ever seen one attempting to climb a pole. They have 6 or 7 acres of tall grass and a wooded area where they could hunt. Maybe that's why I haven't seen any before....Anyway he didn't get a bi...

House Sparrow nestlings. My calculations indicate that one pair of HOSP could theoretically multiply into 1,250 birds over a five year period. See House Sparrow[/quote]

I'll bet it is also against the law to remove the nest....removal after the clutch has fledged may be different....?????

•intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird whilst it is in use or being built

I have 3 repeating traps, a Ruger 10/22, and a Marauder. I thought I had everything under tight control.....but.....a couple of days ago I saw a flock of sparrows arrive. Must have been at least 20 of them. Probably new fledges. Anyway, with all the new arrivals, I'm about back to square one. The sc...
