Good nest check results Dave. My count from the weekend was only 11 eggs in 4 nests but I think my martins just started to lay. I have many vacant gourds so I hoping for those new arrivals that Ray is predicting. :)

Hi WanderingPM, just did a nest check last evening and 3 nests have 2 eggs each. There were 3 other completed nests with green leaves but no eggs so our martins just started laying this week.

Hi Leslie - Welcome to the forum. Happy to see another Virginian posting. :) I had the same experience many years ago when my colony did not return with no reason I could find. Finally 4 years ago a few martins nested here. This year I have had 8 ASY martins and just last week a SY male showed up. T...

Wonderful photos Mike and a great looking setup. For the last two years my martins have always flocked to a Trio house and ignored a very nice gourd rack just 30 ft away. Hard to figure why they prefer one over the other. Hope you get many more this season!

Hi Judy, Enjoyed your video. Your description of a declining martin population sounds like my area too. For years I did not see a martin even though I had 3 houses up. I finally put up a nice gourd rack several years ago but when a few PMs did show up they were only interested in my Trio house and w...

Wow... You must be in a Purple Martin rich area to grow your colony that fast! I still dream of having 20 pairs!! :-) I have only had nesting martins since 2011 and several visitors in 2010. Prior to that it took about 15 years of trying to re-establish my lost colony for unknown reasons. In 2011 I ...

I certainly agree Ray! I just put up my gourd rack on Saturday (60 deg) and today it is covered with 6" of snow. I am grateful no martins have made it to my yard yet. Our high today was 29 deg.

Congratulations CB! I hope those PMs know what they are doing by flying into all this cold and snowy weather. Mine usually arrive about the same time as yours.. 1 Apr. But my Tree Swallows did arrive 14 Mar, 2 weeks ahead of last years date. It seems martins have their own schedule which is impossib...

It sounds like the weather in your area is improving and warming up nicely so you could see your PMs return any time now. I hope to get my gourds up this coming week just in case :)

Hi taxidermy lady and Welcome to the Forum. Hope you have success with your gourd efforts. And Thanks Debbie for your great details on how you grew those two plants! Always wondered how you managed to get so many gourds from two plants as I had 12 plants and only got 13 gourds of that size :) Best o...
