Re: B&B questions

Oyster shells on a Troyer B&B (on two diagonal trays) Not filled up too much with crushed oyster shells, because they're heavy. The two other trays are used to feed the martins (crickets / scrambled eggs) in bad WX. The Troyer B&B is 10 ft high. I put the oyster shells up there as soon as the martin...

Re: Placement of 2nd House

Martins like to socialize. I would put the second house close to the first. Make sure it's as open around the houses as possible.

Re: Gemini rack arrived!!

The Gemini is a nice looking rack. Only have Super-24, but the next time I expand, I might get one. Seems to be a well made rack.

Re: RE: New Landlord Seeks Any/All Advice to Start Out Right...

You're saying you had a house in the back yard already, and took it down. Is the new house going in the same spot as the old? If so, how does the area around look? What I am getting at is since you had visitors but do stays, there is usually a reason, so you might want to evaluate the back yard a li...

Re: Another pole question

For your setup, I would go with aluminum. Much lighter, and still plenty strong for your setup. We are using 3 inch square aluminum poles for our big Super 24 racks, and have never had a problem with any aluminum pole. You just have to be mindful as to how much load and how high up it is. The higher...

Wow. That is amazing for a first season. Keep it up. And as others have said, expand as much as you know you can take care of. Good luck to both of you.

Re: Will all the new landlords please standup!

I had been trying to attract Martins for 12 years with a Trio Castle. I have a very open area, but I would relocate from year to year in an attempt to find what they wanted. The last three years I played the Dawn Song extensively. I was not going to give up and I like the looks of the gourd racks, ...

Re: Will all the new landlords please standup!

It is such an unsure thing when only one pair nested and fledged that first year. It’s just a lot of hoping and praying! If you can get 4-6 pair to establish, the martins that establish after that seem to accept a less than ideal site location and environment. The first 4-5 was the absolute hardest...

Re: Will all the new landlords please standup!

If you can get 4-6 pair to establish, the martins that establish after that seem to accept a less than ideal site location and environment. The first 4-5 was the absolute hardest to get when I started, and I have a very big, open site. It took the better part of 5 years to get the 4-5 pair. So don't...

Is the mentor program for PMCA members only? Or can anyone register to become a mentor? Asking for someone.
