Re: Texas Landlords. How Many Years Did You Wait For That First Pair

From the time we started, until what I call an establish colony, 7 years. And our property is wide open, with water pretty close by. We had nothing, then 1 pair, 1 pair, nothing, 2 pair, year after year, until we had 4 pair, on a Super-24. Wohoo. We decided to plant another Super 24 for the followin...

Re: Frustrating year

This topic of "Frustrating year" is a great advertisement for the importance of routine nest checks. Most all of the questions raised here could be answered by nest checking. Bird Agree. Keep a closer eye on your Martins (nest checks, record keeping, snake nets) might have shed some more light into...

Re: New Landlord - house placement

I guess dogs are different. I have a border collie and a black lab. Last year I had one fledge early and they just kind of looked at it. Just be sure to have the pole pretty good distance from the fence. I've seen many poles erected on the fence etc so the top of the fence is only 6 feet from the b...

Re: My new gourd racks

Nice job. Tig is tricky, if you haven't been at it for a while. Mig,,no problem. Then again, I dont see a steel rack being appropriate
Using a Lincoln Mig on a regular basis. Never tried a Tig...or a Mig with a gun to weld aluminum.

Re: Please help me identify these birds !

Wrens make nests anywhere: Under the hood of cars, in the fenders, in buckets sitting outside, ledges etc. They are very persistent if you remove the nest. They rebuild next day, in the same spot. If you remove the nests enough times, they move on. They also try nesting in our barn swallow cups.

If you put too much, they will remove what they don't need. They will usually add leaves and such to make it the way she wants it. I grab a handful out of the box, and loosely form it into a circular "nestlike" shape, and place that in the compartment.
I fixed it for you
